About the Author Willam Gadsby:

William Gadsby (1773-1844) was an English Baptist pastor and hymn writer who is best known for his hymn book, the “Gadsby’s Hymns”.

Gadsby was born in Attleborough, Norfolk, England, and became a believer in his early twenties. He was ordained as a pastor in 1795 and served as a pastor in various Baptist churches in the Midlands and the North of England.

Gadsby’s greatest legacy is his hymn book, which he first published in 1838. The hymn book was a collection of hymns that he had gathered over the years, many of which were written by himself. The hymns were chosen for their doctrinal content and were designed to be used in the worship services of Baptist churches.

“Gadsby’s Hymns” quickly became popular among Baptists in England and is still used by some churches today. The hymn book contains over 1,000 hymns, many of which are still sung in churches around the world. Some of his famous hymns include “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise,” “How Blest Is He Whose Trespass,” and “O Lord, How Shall I Meet Thee.”

Apart from his hymn-writing and pastoral work, Gadsby was also involved in social issues, such as campaigning against slavery and promoting the education of the poor.

Overall, William Gadsby was a significant figure in the history of English Baptists, and his hymn book has had a lasting impact on Christian worship around the world.
